Shiroyone Rice Fields, Senmaida

WHO WANTS TO GO SEE RICE FIELDS? ......ANYONE?

If you have a plan of going Ishikawa prefecture, "Senmaida" should be in your options. It is located in Wajima city where is known for not only beautiful view of shorelines but also quaint houses, traditional crafts such as Wajima-nuri.

Not to mention seafood is great, people living in Ishikawa and surrounding area is very friendly. Once, a married-couple living in Wajima let me stay for a month with great food and hospitality. (I guess I was too young to realize the stuff.)

Another fun about Ishikawa is a transportation. Not like Tokyo, trains are slower and tinier. So you could feel the good air and enjoy the view from a car window.

Word origin of "Senmaida".

A word origin of Senmaida has two theories:

1. Theory of "Thousand fields".

A word "Senmai" means "one thousand pieces", "Da" means "paddy fields" (sometimes a word is pronounced "Ta".)

2. Theory of "Narrow fields".

Narrow fields are pronounced "Semai Ta". It is said that the word changed to "Senmaida" as time passed.
