Kanazawa castle
A CASTLE SURVIVED FROM 52 FIRE INCIDENTS.
Construction of Kanazawa castle was finished in 16th century by Toshiie Maeda, the lord of Noto. The castle is known for its well architecture and history of fire.
The castle have experienced 56 times of fire caused by lightning strike and mismanagement of fire which burnt down many facilities of the castle.
Main cause of the fire arise from geographical reason. Initiation of fire is mostly due to mismanagement of fire, but the fire grew rapidly because of foehn phenomena.
Kanazawa used be one of major cities of ancient Japan. That is why the castle and nearby town developed even though fire was imminent.
Although the castle is not as it was before. Yet remain with beautiful view of surroundings including oneself.
Main tower of Kanazawa castle was burnt down by lightning strike in 1602. Less than 20 years after lord Maeda started to reside and the main tower was never rebuilt.
Many of the facilities were rebuilt. With help of Miyadaiku all around Ishikawa, who is specialized in temple, shrine and castle. They rebuilt numbers of buildings that were burnt down with traditional techniques.
The technique they use timber framework method that use none of nails. The framework using wooden pillar and beam. Joint part of each wood is cut and combined.
The castle is not the only place to see.
There is a national park called Kenrokuen. The park was originally made for lord of the castle and now open for public.
Scale of the park is satisfactory big and great spot for photo shoots.
Entry fee of castle is free except for some of buildings. Kenrokuen, the park will be charged for ¥500.

From Kanazawa station: Busses are available.
There is also a round bus service called "Kenrokuen shuttle" which makes a round trip for many sightseeing places. 1 day pass is recommended.
